Is Anything Better Or Nothing
Aly watched as Nawat spun his new wife around the dance floor. He looked so happy, they both did. His new wife was a simple court lady, progressive thankfully, but rather simple minded.
She had seen Nawat on his third night of being in Tortall for the first time. It had been at a ball to celebrate Aly's own marriage and whilst Nawat had spoken to the girl, it has never gotten anywhere further than a "hi, my name is...". And Aly had suspected nothing.
But after that she had started to get suspicious. Nawat was coming to their quarters later and later in the night and was always returning flustered. Every time he returned past midnight, (Aly always stayed up to wait for him, being the loyal wife she was) he would refuse to talk to her or even look at her.
It was at this time that Aly realised that he was having an affair with this woman.
But having him there at least part of the time, even if he wasn't loyal and didn't love her any more was better than nothing right?
Slowly, it had gotten worse. Nawat wouldn't return for whole nights and even when he did return, he would ignore Aly, pretend that she wasn't there.
Three weeks after it had started, Aly decided to confront Nawat.
By the end of the conversation, they were no longer married.
And now, after attending their wedding, Aly was watching them dancing in circles, staring into each others eyes, deep in love.
'It's disgusting, isn't it?' Alan asked from behind her. Aly looked at him and followed to see what he was looking at. No big surprise, the same thing as she had been.
'To think that I had once done that with him!' Aly replied.
'But you wont have to ever again,' Alan replied.
'I don't want to be here any more. Do you want go and fence?' Aly asked.
'Anywhere's better then here,' Alan replied and unknown to many and most at the celebration, the twins disappeared.
