City Bird
City bird, city bird
Fly away from my window, my window
'Cause you don't sing
Like the birds from home sing
Your song is dying
I set the table
For the ghosts in my home, my home
And pour the wine, and raise a glass
For the guests in my home
They're entering
In their skin and in their bones, still in their bones
The vision scares, but none compares
To the dread of drinking alone
After the tower's turned to a tomb
The underworld refugees all were refused by the banker
They could never go in
So I let them in, oh...
City bird, city bird
Fly away from my window, my window
'Cause you don't sing
Like the birds from home sing
Your song is dying
I light the candle
For the ghosts in my home, my home
And say a prayer to please send care
For the guests in my home
But in their sleep
They claw and scream the devil home (The devil's come home)
But that nightmare
Does not compare to the demons in sleeping alone
After the tower is turned to a tomb
The underworld refugees all were refused by the banker
And with nowhere to go
They wash up on Skid Row, oh...
City bird, city bird
Fly away from my window, my window
'Cause you don't sing
Like the birds from home sing
Your song is dying
The river was a faithful company. It sang its musical song constantly and never once commented on how she looked that day. Neither did Ebony. But she was with Halt. Finding the person who had messed up two lives, hers and Wills.
It was a small sad chirp. A sound that said how Alyss felt all in the one note.
She looked up to find the owner of the sound.
A small bird was standing over the body of another bird. The other bird had marks in its neck and was lying cold on the ground. The bird left alive let out another chirp and pushed the other bird with its beak.
The one still standing was green all over and the one lying down had red on the chest.
'A male and female,' Alyss whispered through her tears. The male had died protecting the female.
'If I had been only seconds earlier,' Alyss said and went over to the birds. The female tried to scare her away, but didn't move when Alyss got close.
She buried the dead bird and let the female fly away. Before she did fly away however, she let out a small trill and pecked Alyss on the hand.
The light had faded from the sky and the moon was still yet to make an appearance when Alyss had gotten back to the cabin. Instead of going to the inn, she stayed home and lit candles for the ghosts that still littered the Earth.
