Free From Pain
'Mummy, what's wrong?' the little girl asked before letting lose a hacking cough that shook her whole frame.
'You're very sick,' Alyss replied softly and brushed her daughters hair away from her face.
'When is Daddy coming home?'
'Soon, very soon,' Alyss replied and prayed that Will was able to get Malcolm to come as fast as he could. The little girl soon fell asleep and was ignorant to the rest of the world.
'Alyss!' called a voice softly through the cabin.
'Yes?' she replied in the same tone and walked out of the room to Will. He was thinner than he had been when he left and was looking worn out and exhausted.
'Did you managed to get him?' Alyss asked before she fell into her husbands arms, not caring about his state of dirtiness.
There was a loud bang as some one tripped up the stairs and then as they cursed their way inside, hopping slightly. The door opened to reveal Malcolm looking similar to Will did.
'Show me where your girl it,' he said and Alyss lead him.
As soon as he walked in Malcolm pushed Alyss and Will out of the room and told them to get some rest, and that he would look after the poor little girl.
Alyss awoke the next night to Will shaking her roughly. It seemed as though he was starting to panic.
'What's wrong?' Alyss asked, sitting up stright. This wasn't the first time Will had woken her up like this.
'Our girl, she's dying!' he said and Alyss shot out of bed and raced into the other room.
Malcolm was standing, leaning over the little girl and holding his hand against the fragile, delicate wrist.
'She's gone,' he whispered.
